phone accessories

Posted on 29 March 2010 by alexk

The iPhone is a line of Internet- and multimedia-enabled smartphones designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It functions as a camera phone (also including text messaging and visual voicemail), a portable media player (equivalent to a video iPod), and an Internet client (with e-mail, web browsing, and Wi-Fi connectivity). The user interface is built around the device’s multi-touch screen, including a virtual keyboard in lieu of a physical keyboard. Third-party applications are available from the App Store, which launched in mid-2008 and now has well over 100,000 “apps” approved by Apple, with functionalities ranging from games to reference to productivity.

Apple announced the iPhone on January 9, 2007,[16] after months of rumors and speculation.[17] The original (labeled retroactively) iPhone was introduced in the United States on June 29, 2007 before being marketed in Europe. It featured quad-band GSM with EDGE. Time magazine named it the Invention of the Year in 2007.[18] Released July 11, 2008, the iPhone 3G supports faster 3G data speeds via UMTS with 3.6 Mbps HSDPA, and assisted GPS.[19] Apple released version 3.0 of the iPhone OS for the iPhone (and iPod Touch) on June 17, 2009.[20] The iPhone 3GS has improved performance, a camera with higher resolution and video capability, voice control,[21] and support for 7.2 Mbps HSDPA downloading (but remains limited to 384 Kbps uploading as Apple has not implemented the HSPA protocol).[22] It was released in the U.S., Canada and six European countries on June 19, 2009,[3] in Australia and Japan on June 26,[23] and internationally in July and August 2009. The original iPhone was discontinued with the introduction of the iPhone 3G, which remains available alongside the iPhone 3GS.

Headphones

Posted on 29 March 2010 by alexk

Headphones can be used both with fixed equipment such as CD or DVD players, home theater, personal computers and with portable devices (e.g. digital audio player/mp3 player, mobile phone, etc.). Cordless headphones do not need to be connected via a wire, receiving a radio or infrared signal encoded using a radio or infrared transmission link, like FM, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. These are actually made of powered receiver systems of which the headphone is only a component, these types of cordless headphones are being used more frequently with events such as a silent disco or Silent Gig.

In the professional audio sector headphones are used in live situations by disc jockeys with a DJ mixer and sound engineers for monitoring signal sources. In radio studios, DJs use a pair of headphones when talking to the microphone while the speakers are turned off, to eliminate acoustic feedback and monitor their own voice. In studio recordings, musicians and singers use headphones to play along to a backing track. In the military, audio signals of many varieties are monitored using headphones.

Wired headphones are attached to an audio source. The most common connectors are 1/4″ and 3.5 mm stereophonic jack plugs and sockets. The older 1/4″ standard is used on professional equipment, and is often used on fixed equipment. Sony introduced the smaller, cheaper, and now widely-used, 3.5 mm “mini” stereo connector in 1979, adapting the older monophonic 3.5 mm connector for use with its Walkman portable stereo tape player. Adapters are available for converting between 1/4″ and 3.5 mm devices.

Window Repaair

Posted on 29 March 2010 by alexk

Power windows or electric windows are automobile windows which can be raised and lowered by depressing a button or switch, as opposed to using a hand-turned crank handle.

James Arthur Ward in his book, The Fall of Packard Motor Car Company states that Packard introduced the first power windows (along with automotive air-conditioning systems) in the 1940 Packard 180 series. This was a hydro-electric system and does not appear to have included power seats. In 1941, the Ford Motor Company followed quickly with power windows on the Lincoln Custom (only the limousine and seven-passenger sedans). Cadillac had a straight-electric divider window (but not side windows) on their series 75 limousines immediately prior to World War II.

Many advertisements use the term electric or power window “lifts” (somewhat more English) rather than merely power windows or power window assists.

Power assists originated in the need and desire to move convertible body-style tops up and down by some means other than human effort. The earliest power assists were vacuum-operated and were offered on Chrysler Corporation vehicles, particularly the low-cost Plymouth convertibles in the late 1930s.

Shortly before World War II, General Motors developed a central hydraulic pump for working convertible tops. This system was introduced on 1942 convertibles built by GM. Previously, GM had used a vacuum system which did not have the power to handle increasingly larger and complex (four side-windows vs. only two) convertible top mechanisms.

Individual for front bench seats were introduced after WWII. All of these systems were based on major hydraulic advances made in military weapons (tanks, aircraft) in prepartion for World War II. The full Hydro-Lectric system (windows, front seat adjustment and convertible top) appeared in either the 1946 or 1947 model year . The seat and window assists were optional on closed cars (standard on some Cadillac Series 75 models). The full system was standard only on the high-end GM convertibles made by Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac. It was only available as a package; that is, power assisted windows, front seat and convertible top (where applicable). It can be identified in 1948 and later General Motors model numbers with an “X” at the end, such as the 1951 Cadillac Sixty Special sedan, model 6019X .

Fast Vehicle Repair Advice

Posted on 10 March 2010 by sheppy

Money worries are causing drivers to avoid having their vehicle repaired, new research shows.

A study commissioned by Esure car insurance indicates that over 23 million motorists put off taking their car to a garage despite being aware that there is a problem with it. A third (33 per cent) of people questioned claim that they do not take action on the faults with their car due to an unwillingness to shell out money for repairs, with 31 per cent stating that they simply do not have the time to go to a garage. The figures come as the insurance firm revealed 44 per cent of respondents would rather prioritise their spending on leisure pursuits such as holidays and clothes, rather than getting a known fault with their vehicle sorted out.

Some eight per cent of people questioned report that they will only bother getting their car fixed once it becomes completely unusable. In addition, about three-quarters of drivers were shown to be unaware what all the warning symbols on their dashboard mean.

By delaying getting repairs carried out, however, it is possible that drivers find problems with their vehicle worsening. This may lead them to face a higher service bill, which could result in difficulties with other financial demands such as personal loans, credit and store cards and mortgage costs.

Commenting on the figures, Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting for esure, said: “Driving a car with a fault – no matter how small it may be – could potentially increase the likelihood of having an accident or breakdown. Motorists should always think about the internal feel of the car whilst driving as well as any unusual noise they may hear.”

Dave Cotterill from KC Auto’s added that although drivers may at first have a “relatively minor problem” with their vehicle, in not sorting it out straight away they will only exacerbate their difficulties and gradually become a danger on the road. He went on to state by unnecessarily delaying getting a repair, motorists could also find that fixing the problem will cost them more money.

Further research from the firm indicated that 42 per cent of Welsh drivers claim money problems are the main reason for delaying putting their car into service. On the other hand, Scottish residents appear to be the most conscious about safety as a third of motorists from the region state they get a fault with their car sorted out as soon as possible. Meanwhile, some 37 per cent of women drivers state that they avoid such a trip because of difficulties with money, compared to 29 per cent of men.

Those looking for a competitive way to fund the repair of a car, however, may wish to take out a low-rate loan. In opting for this type of loan, it is possible that motorists can quickly meet such a payment demand and be left with affordable repayments to make each month. A cheap personal loan may also be of assistance to those looking to buy a car. Last year, MoneySupermarket reported that taking out a cheap UK loan ahead of a forecourt finance deal could save hundreds of pounds for the people buying one of the new September registration models.

Running A Car Valet Business

Posted on 10 March 2010 by sheppy

Starting in business for yourself can be a very daunting proposition and in today’s credit crunch climate, every new car cleaning operation needs all the free help and advice they can take, to keep their business growing profitably during the first three to six crucial months.

You can pre-determine the success and profitability of your new car wash, valeting, detailing or specialist detailing business by working through our simple guides and making professional and not emotional decisions when deciding how, where and when to get started.

This article looks at how you can evaluate the opportunity.

Remember – Always Do Your Research Thoroughly – Before You Start!

Whether you have even taken the brave decision to leave your current employment, follow your dream and go it alone or interested in the car care industry because of redundancy or lack of other work opportunities, the key to any successful start up car wash operation is to do your research first.

Make sure that there is a demand for the type of car cleaning business you hope to operate in your area you want to work in, before you start creating long drawn out business plans, buying chemicals and equipment or having leaflets printed.

One of the most important aspects is to determine if you are entering a specific market segment that has room to grow, or is already over-supplied within your area.

To understand the status of each specific market segment, you need to determine who your main competitors are, estimate their current volume of business, and establish the percentage of market that is already taken (and why).

Only then will you arrive at what the market potential is for your new business that exists today.

The role of continued market growth has to be seriously considered as well – as it’s very easy to have too many suppliers and too few customers.

First take a trip to a number of local automated, jet wash or hand car wash and valeting centres to see how their operation works and determine each businesses benefits and customer base.

Spend some time at each operation and take make notes on the volume and type of cars that are cleaned and the services they are offered. Even if you are thinking of opening a mobile car valeting business, this gives a good indication of how people treat their cars (often through lack of choice) and how you can improve on the service they are currently receiving.

During your assessment you might discover that most of the businesses have no redeemable benefits and no value added proposition, but rather they are “just another car cleaning business.” This gives you an opportunity to do it bigger and better, with more care and customer service!

By using an online service such as a mobile car cleaning company your compiled information and search, within a 5-mile radius of where you’d like to focus your business, to see who else is competing in your car cleaning sector.

At the click of a button you can find out details of all car wash openings and other news results and information for any given area in the country. Although these are not specific and exact figures, they still can be very helpful in making rough estimates of the opportunity in your area and how these businesses have faired since opening (i.e. are they still trading – if not why not?).

You can check at any given time whether other car wash operators have applied for planning permission to open a site within the area. If they have already deemed the area has “significant market potential” this means that you can piggyback on their research and take advantage of their belief in operating a profitable business there.

By using all the data available, you can estimate the percentage of the market that is being served by the existing car washes and specifically for the type of car wash business you are considering. When you’ve arrived at that number, you will then know what portion of the market is truly non-competitive.

If that number alone gives you the volume you’re projecting for your business, then your analysis is finished. However, if that number does not give you the volume you want, to make the returns that you need, there is more research work to be done and decisions to be made on the realistic potential of the business.

Corporate Car Service Can Help You Seal the Deal

Posted on 09 March 2010 by alexk

The right business attire, professional attitude and car service can go a long way in building one’s reputation in the corporate world. A person’s manners, clothing and mechanism can speak volumes about their reliability, trustworthiness and professional abilities.

Picking a client up to discuss business in the family mini-van strewn with your toddler’s crackers or yesterday’s mail doesn’t present the best impression to a business customer. It’s wise to keep one’s personal life to oneself when dealing in corporate matters. A person’s own vehicle is like a little piece of their home life, which may be a wonderful thing but often not a good idea to bring into public view. You wouldn’t meet an important business contact in faded denim jeans and a tee-shirt, so why pick them up in a comfy family vehicle. Dress and drive with respect in mind.

Owning and maintaining a high profile luxury mechanism can be a pricey thing for many small companies. Many businesspersons are opting for gas friendly vehicles for their own driving time, which may be tiny and not so great for conducting important sales or other type meetings. Why pick your client up in a tiny and cramped hybrid automobile when you can have a corporate car service own and maintain that luxury vehicle, such as a Lincoln town vehicle, and pick you and your client up only when necessary? What may be good for the environment may not be the best choice for sealing a deal which involves a substantial amount of cash. Let the car service take care of everything except for negotiating your business deals.

What type of mechanism will be appropriate for your corporate event or meeting? SUVs, town vehicles, vans or even limousines are available for customers and their clients to stretch out in while conducting business. The drivers that will be behind the wheel are well trained to have a professional and discreet manner while tooling around the city. The chauffeurs are also safe drivers. In order to be employed with a bit, the driver must have a clean and impeccable driving record. Their extensive road experience will enable them to have a firm grip on the best routes for travel as well as the most appropriate parking options in the necessary locales.

When it’s time to seal that important business deal, leave the family vehicle at home. Employ a corporate car service in order to provide a safe, comfortable, reliable and impressive mode of transportation. As the contract is signed in a relaxed manner, you’ll be glad you chose a car service to support your endeavor.

Water Pump Replacement

Posted on 09 March 2010 by alexk

You don’t have to be a car mechanic to recognize that a good performing water pump is the chief key to the survival of your car’s engine. Noisy, loose, wobbly, and shaft leaks indicate that water pump replacement is necessary. Note that similar problems can affect the fan clutches, thus you should perform replacement to maintain operating temperatures under control and inhibit boiling fluids from leaking through cylinder head gaskets.

In most cars, you will discover the pump installed on the front of the engine, together with a drive pulley appended to the pump hub. If very tight, you will see the fan clutch installed to the pulley together with bolts in its flange. These specifically cover cars with traditional or conventional engines. If you have a front-wheel-drive, you might find yourself in a puzzling position since the engine is normally mounted sideways resulting to trickier belt access and at times needs removal of the timing chain initially. If this is your case, you should analyze your level of expertise. If you lack the knowledge, it’s best to get the services of a professional mechanic to perform the pump replacement.

Start the job by disengaging the negative cable of the battery, drain the coolant, and then take the hoses and belt away to unbolt the fan and shroud if applicable. Get the pulley. Unfasten the existing water pump. Cleanse the gasket segment with a solvent or a scraper. Utilize gasket sealant if replacement guidelines specify.

Place and secure the new pump as well as gasket per the instruction manual. To bring all the parts back after accomplishing the water pump replacement, you just need to reverse the disassembly process, locked the belt to its appropriate tension, and then fill the recommended amount of water and coolant mixture in the radiator. Start your engine and look for squeaks and leaks. If you don’t find any, you’re surely good to go!

Used Car Hints & Advice

Posted on 08 March 2010 by sheppy

When looking for a used car deal there are a number of pitfalls to be wary of. For the most part a used car purchase is a straightforward experience, especially if your vehicle is from an authorised main dealer. However private car sales are not always subject to the same rigour and attention to detail.

Most private sellers are honest and will provide a good and accurate service when selling their motor car but beware of used care vendors that aim to sell cars with incomplete records and other questionable data.

Autotrader.co.uk is a great, well established site where you can find many used car deals.
